AC/DC - Thunderstruck video
realease date: 1990 ( 20 years ago )
album: The Razors Edge
about Thunderstruck: One of the most famous AC/DC songs and also one of the most famous guitar riffs of all times.
It is said that the title for the song was coined by Angus Young after his actual experience with thunderstruck. His plane was hit by lightning and few seconds before the impact his hair raised from the accumulated electricity in the air. Luckily no damage was done to the plane or the passengers.
The intro riff that gets played almost throughout the whole song has always been a difficult task to mimic by any guitarist.
Contrary to the popular belief, Angus Young does not perform the technique known as "tapping" to achieve rapid tones. He strikes every note with a guitar pick instead.
The confusion and debates were generally being made because of the video for the song. In the video we can clearly see that Angus is playing the main riff with only one hand, hence using the tapping technique.
But in reality this is false, as he only performs this for the sake of the video material.
A very good close up on Angus Young's performance of the thunderstruck can be observed in AC/DC's successful Live at Donington concert video.
