Since their formation back in the 1975 Iron Maiden has been the band with the most loyal fan base in the world. They form a crucial part of the so called New Wave of British Heavy Metal, but have since defined their unique genre.

They achieved moderate success with their first singer Paul Dianno, but real stardom comes once he gets replaced with charismatic Bruce Dickinson.
Eventually even Bruce will leave the band, but only for a couple of years.

Iron Maiden is the recognizable sound of heavy metal music, tightly synced two (now three) electric guitars and a strong bass lines. The lyrical themes of the songs range from occult, mysterious, pagan, social, political, and historical to various wars references.

For the best part of their career Iron Maiden remained true to their original sound. The band also served as an influence to many new generations of heavy metal bands.

During the 80’s they became notorious for being labeled as occult Satanists. This became especially noticed once they released their most successful album "Number of the Beast" (referencing to the

satanic number 666). Several religious groups even managed to ban their concerts (for example in Chile) and there was a backlash in the US resulting in some groups burning their records publicly.

Steve Harris (bass) said these entire claims were false. The band itself has since shifted thematically; the latest album A Matter of Life and Death speaks much more about terrorism, war and current issues in the world.

They have sold millions of records and played over 2000 concerts in their career.
