IRON MAIDEN - The Number of the Beast video

realease date: 1982 ( 28 years ago )
album: The Number of the Beast
about The Number of the Beast: "The Number of the Beast" was the second single from the album with the same name, after "Run to the Hills". The main premise for the song was created by bassist Steve Harris. He successfully transformed a nightmare he had after watching a horror movie ("Damien: Omen II").

The song starts with a quote from Revelations: "Woe to you, o' Earth and sea...
For the Devil sends the Beast with wrath...
Because he knows the time is short...
Let him who hath understanding reckon the number of the Beast...
For it is a human number...
It's number is six-hundred and sixty-six."

Iron Maiden tried to get a famous horror movie actor Vience Price to read these introduction lines, but he declined and said he would do it only if they paid him £25,000 for it. Good money for 10 seconds of speech eh? : )

Anyway Maiden went on to hire a theater worker called Barry Clayton. At the time Barry worked at the Capital Radio and was known for reading ghost stories on the air.

Just as many other songs from Iron Maiden, this one has also been accused of being a satanic song, while in reality it had nothing to do with any occult worshiping, just a nightmare being retold in a very Maiden like way.
