As of 2009 Oasis is formally no more. The long tension between the Gallagher brothers has finally put an end to it.

Oasis was formed back in 1991. by Liam Gallagher. During their career they managed to become one of the best selling bands that ever emerged from Britain. According to stats they've sold over 70 million albums.
Heavily inspired by the Beatles they were the leaders of the new emerging genre that became very popular - Britpop.

The "Pop" part is actually more related to the classic pop of the 60's, nothing to do with today's mainstream music.
And 60's were actually the most influential decade for the Oasis.
They sported a bad "Stones" look, but musically were very close to The Beatles.

Their trademark and biggest success was the "(What's the Story) Morning Glory?" album. Spawning hit singles such as the "Wonderwall" and "Don't Look Back in Anger". The album stayed on top of the British charts for 10 weeks. It also climbed very high in the US - number 4.

1995–1998 were the golden years for Oasis, but as soon as the new millennium kicked in their popularity started to shrink. Probably because large audience started suffering to BritPop as the 90's genre.

Oasis stayed true to their style and did not really bother to re-invent themselves over the years.
As stated before, officially Oasis are no more. But the word "Revival" goes with Rock just as "Roll" does.
