SIMPLE MINDS - Belfast Child video

realease date: 1989 ( 23 years ago )
album: Street Fighting Years
about Belfast Child: When we talk about Simple Minds drifting away from the mainstream 80's new wave into a politically engaged rock band then we certainly mean "Belfast Child".

The song was written as the aftermath of the "Remembrance Day bombing" that took place on 8 November 1987.

IRA planted a bomb in a war memorial in a town of Enniskillen (Northern Ireland) killing 11 and injuring many more.
This led to the outrage in Republic of Ireland and UK.

The song "Belfast Child" captures the moment in a chilly verse "when Belfast child sings again".

Some say that this song is the Simple Mind's "Sunday Bloody Sunday" (alluding to U2), but in fact songs are very different.
