THE BEATLES - Yellow Submarine video

realease date: 1966 ( 44 years ago )
album: Revolver
about Yellow Submarine: A hippie classic – "Yellow Submarine" was recorded in 1966 and had Ringo Starr on main vocals. It was released on two records – first as the part of their successful Revolver album and afterwards as part of the soundtrack of the animated movie also called "Yellow Submarine".

Song went straight to number 1 in Britain and remained there for 13 weeks in a row. It didn’t manage to reach number 1 in US. Many suspects it is because of the "Bigger than Jesus" controversy.

For those that are not familiar with mentioned controversy it revolves around John Lennon and his statements "Evening Standard" interview. He was talking about Christianity and stated: "Christianity will go. It will vanish and shrink… We're more popular than Jesus now—I don't know which will go first, rock and roll or Christianity."

Interesting enough these remarks went unnoticed in the UK but sparked enormous outrage in the US. Beatles even decided to stop touring US as there were public burning of Beatles records, threats to John Lennon and involvement by Ku Klux Klan.
